Workshops
Amy is happy to come and visit you, your campus, your organization to give concerts of her own original compositions for piano spiced up by the inclusion of works by Egberto Gismonti, Alberto Ginastera, Chick Corea, George Gershwin and other who specialize in “fascinating rhythms.”
She is also available to present workshops and master classes on the following topics:
- Music and Narrative: how concert music, music for film, and music for theater tell a story; this presentation examines the techniques used by composers to create a sense of character, time, place, and emotion in music.
- The Music of West Africa: this presentation includes her own field research videos, audio recordings, compositions inspired by the music of West Africa , and a presentation on Western composers and how they have been influenced by the music of West Africa. Included are audio recordings, scores, and her own transcriptions of a variety of musical works.
- Transforming the Familiar: how do composers take the music familiar to the everyday listener and transform it into something new, fresh and challenging? This topic will be explored by discovery and analysis of a wide spectrum of musical excerpts.
